At VIGNETI REPETTO
Where wine meets the horizon
The company extends over 26 hectares of which 18 are planted with vines at an altitude of between 240 and 340 metres. The excellent exposure and the calcareous clay soils of the Sant'Agata Fossili marls are the strong point for quality production.
In Sarezzano, in the Tortona Hills, on the UNESCO Belvedere Tortona Sarezzano slope in easternmost Piedmont, a winemaking project that aims to combine technology and eco-sustainability.
The Story
____
The protagonists of this adventure are Gian Paolo Repetto and his wife Marina.
Gian Paolo, born into a farming family and raised in the countryside, initially decided to pursue his passion for technology by developing an engineering company, moving away from the land.
The values he acquired during his youth in the countryside and shared with his wife, such as problem-solving skills and a sense of community, never ceased to remind him of his deep love for the land.
The call of home and the unique charm of the Tortona Hills, where the vineyards meet the horizon, did the rest. The company's motto is "Ancient Method Modern Technology." This phrase sums up the winemaker's thinking and signifies respect for tradition with the use of technology, which today allows for respect for nature in the vineyard and cellar, obtaining top-quality grapes, the primary requirement for making a wine.
The Territory
____
This isn't just a land: it's home. The pure air, the temperate climate, the fertile soil, and, above all, the love of the people who cultivate it make these hills in the province of Alessandria, bordering Lombardy and Liguria, truly unique. They are dedicated to viticulture and fruit growing.
The Tortona Hills, in the shadow of Mount Giarolo, comprise the Curone, Grue, Ossona, Borbera, and Spinti Valleys. Among the local products, besides wine, are porcini mushrooms, white and black truffles, Montèbore cheese (a Slow Food Presidium), and Nobile del Giarolo salami, best enjoyed between a ride on the roads of Fausto Coppi, the Campionissimo, and a visit to the Pellizza da Volpedo Museum to admire the "Quarto Stato" and other world-famous works.
The Cellar
____
Thinking that technology is our best resource to eliminate chemicals and consumption both in the vineyard and in the cellar, we decided to vinify Timorasso using a winemaker designed by a Piedmontese start-up, set up by the Elegir brothers who, with great initiative and expertise, one an engineer and the other an oenologist, created VinoOxygen.
This allows us to vinify without racking, thus reducing sulphites to a minimum without risking quality, as well as drastically limiting water consumption for washing after racking.
SUSTAINABILITY
